300SPINS™: Why We Record Every Spin
SlotWise uses FeatureMatch™ to organize the special features of every slot, giving readers a sense of each game’s character before they play. Features alone, however, cannot show what a session is actually like. For selected slots, we play 300 spins under consistent conditions and record every result. A 300SPINS™ review analyzes that observed play using eight metrics.
A closer look at the first session
The first 100 to 200 spins strongly shape how a player experiences a slot. That first impression changes with the frequency of wins, whether free spins appear, and whether the rewards are concentrated in a few large wins.
300SPINS™ records a little more of that initial experience. Three hundred spins cannot show everything a game might do. We are not trying to establish its theoretical probabilities from that sample. We aim to record a first session under consistent conditions and compare it with records from other slots.
Consistent playing conditions
To compare different games, we first need consistent playing conditions.
- Demo version: We play the demo so that our analysis is not tied to settings used by a particular casino or region. Some slots offer multiple RTP configurations.
- One session: We play all 300 spins in a single session. This does not assume that a slot has a supposed “flow.” It keeps play from different times and conditions from being mixed together and preserves one initial experience as a whole.
- Base bet: We keep the base bet and do not buy bonuses. Game conditions can vary with the bet amount, and players generally start with a low bet when trying a game for the first time.
Eight measures of the experience
We do more than record the 300 results. We organize them using the eight metrics below and assess each result as hardcore, casual, or neutral in tendency. For more on these distinctions, see Hardcore & Casual: How We Distinguish Them.
- Free Spin Hit Rate: The share of the 300 spins that triggered free spins. Higher values lean casual.
- Free Spin Payout Multiplier: The average free-spin payout, expressed as a multiple of the bet amount when free spins are triggered. Higher values lean hardcore.
- Hit Rate: The share of the 300 spins that produced a win. Higher values lean casual.
- Profit Hit Rate: The share of the 300 spins that paid at least the bet amount. Higher values lean hardcore.
- Max Multiplier: The highest payout multiplier observed in the 300 spins. Higher values lean hardcore.
- Average Multiplier: The average payout multiplier among winning spins in the 300-spin session. Higher values lean hardcore.
- Free Spin Dependency: The share of the session’s total payout that came from free spins. Higher values lean hardcore.
- Big Win Dependency: The share of the session’s total payout that came from big wins. Higher values lean hardcore.
These measures show not only how often wins appeared, but also what kinds of wins produced the session’s results.
A growing basis for comparison
Chance can have a large effect on a single 300-spin session. But as sessions recorded under the same conditions accumulate across slots, they provide a common basis for comparison. The overall averages in the data collected so far also fall in ranges similar to those generally expected of slots.
300SPINS™ does not predict a slot’s future results or assign it a score. It is a review that makes every spin we actually played available and helps readers interpret that record alongside other games using the same criteria.
